Marnice Emerson writes the kind of emotionally layered women’s fiction she has always loved to read; stories where ordinary people confront extraordinary truths and are changed through connection. The Space Between Us was inspired by a life-changing trip she took to Alaska with her two children and her mother after her father’s passing. During an excursion in Mount Denali National Park, they met an Alaska Native elder woman who shared the meaning of the potlatch – a celebration of life, loss, and renewal. Following her mother’s death in 2024, Marnice returned to that memory and began writing a story that became both tribute and transformation with the belief that every ending holds a new beginning.

Like the spiritual guides who appear in her fiction, Marnice’s stories explore the resilience of the human heart. Stories that are rooted in the belief that growth comes from the willingness to walk through darkness toward light. She is currently at work on the second novel in this series, continuing to explore themes of belonging and the healing power of love.

Before turning to fiction, she built a career in education, encouraging her students to find courage in change – a value she carries into her writing. When she isn’t writing, Marnice finds inspiration from family and friends, her garden, and her own second chance at love.

Stories that heal the distance between loss and love
